 Mavis Gallant: Canadian Short Story Writer

Mavis Leslie de Trafford Gallant , was a Canadian writer who spent much of her life and career in France. Gallant had a rare gift: a solid imagination. No one provides more concrete and factual information while at the same time making you feel as if you suddenly understand something essential about human life. This discussion of Mavis Gallant's short stories and novels will leave patrons enlightened from her writing prowess and elegance.

Many of Mavis Gallant's works were out of print until the New York Review of Books published three new volumes of her collected short stories. These collections are titled "Paris Stories", "The Cost of Living", and "Varieties of Exile". Ms. Gallant earned numerous literary prizes and awards including the PEN/Nabokov award in 2004. Join Neil Schulhoff as he explores the newer editions of Mavis Galant's work in this continuing discussion of acclaimed authors who deserve your readership. Enrollment recommended.
