Origins of Opera- A new Art Based on a MistakeLibrary: Downtown Library Boca Raton
Have you ever wanted to listen to opera but didn’t know where to start? The 3- part Discover Opera series will educate you on the history and nuance of the different eras of this artform. This lecture will encompass the origins of opera with a focus on Monteverdi’s The Coronation of Poppea.
Take a journey through musical history and discover opera as you may have never heard it before. Dr. Kenneth Keaton from Florida Atlantic University will lead this lecture on the lush history of opera.
Ken Keaton is a professor of music at Florida Atlantic University, where he teaches music history, classical guitar, and chamber music. He is the director of the undergraduate honors program for the Department of Music at Florida Atlantic University, and served as Associate Dean of The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters from 1993 to 2008. He has been an active performer for many years, with a particular interest in chamber music and works for voice and guitar, and has presented concerts throughout southern Florida, the eastern United States, and in Europe. Dr. Keaton has performed with the FAU Chamber Soloists and on the Chamber Music Series of the the Department of Music. He has released a CD of Franz Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin.
