Event Details

Historian Rich Walling recounts how, in the early 18th century, one New Jersey magistrate kidnapped and sold nearly 150 free African Americans into permanent slavery in the sugarcane fields of Louisiana. A short film will depict how Judge Jacob Van Wickle used his court to destroy the lives of men, women, and children. The story ends with families in the north and south reuniting through the results of DNA testing.
