Event Details

One hundred years ago, the 15th New York National Guard Regiment was poised to earn immortal fame as the Harlem Hellfighters on the battlefields of France. Of the 2,000 men who shipped out from Hoboken in 1917, 250 of them were from New Jersey. Of that number, 24 never returned home. Forty men from the Newark area served. The story of four men will be highlighted, including Needham Roberts, one of the first heroes of the war, who is buried in Newark; Isaac Mann, of Ramapo Lenape descent; Crawford Crews of Montclair; and Archie Redd of New Brunswick to illustrate the role that New Jersey volunteers served in the famed Hellfighter regiment. You are cordially invited to attend this very special presentation. We remember the Alamo, we remember the Spartans; it is time to remember the Hellfighters.
