Architectural historian/preservationist Jane Cowan will guide you on a trip through its past. Ms. Cowan will discuss the islandís history, development, architecture, years of decline and eventual rebirth as a museum and historic landmark. Additionally, explore the experiences of some of the many immigrants who passed through the grand Beaux-Arts building compound. A storied location in America, the island is synonymous with immigration. Learn how this small island in the East River became the epicenter of American immigration in the late 19th and first half of the 20th century and played such an outsized role in the American story.
