Legal Reference: Helping Library Patrons Cope with Legal Problems(Unpublished)

Event Type: General Workshop
Date: 4/25/2014
Start Time: 9:30 AM
End Time: 3:30 PM
If someone comes to you with a legal issue, do you absolutely freeze? You canít give legal advice, can you? But, there must be print or online resources that are available to this person. There must be referrals to other agencies you could make. There must be some way you can help. And, indeed, as a librarian there is much that you can do. This workshop, presented by court staff, attorneys, and experienced librarians together,is designed to familiarize you with the legal landscape and resources. It will help you become familiar with a range of options and help you decide which ones are appropriate for a given situation. By the end of the day, you should feel confident that you can provide significant direction and assistance to your patrons who come to you with these problems.
