An overview of collection development for public libraries, designed as an introductory exposure to collection development with more in-depth and specialized areas covered in future elective workshops. Topics covered will be collection development policies, sourcing and evaluating resources, weeding, and working within budgetary and space limitations. Focus will be primarily on print materials, with brief attention paid to electronic formats and other materials.
This course will fulfill the core Collection Development requirement for the Certificate of Public Librarianship program, but is open to all, with Elective credits earned for those who have already completed the core Collection Development course.
